Annual Meeting July 2, 2011

Our Annual Meeting this year is being held in conjunction with PCA's Summer Field Day on July 2, 2011. Check out the agenda below for more information!

Pennsylvania Cattlemen’s Association Summer Field Day
Hosted by Billie & Jim Cowell - Frosty Springs Farm
1214 Garards Fort Rd, Waynesburg, PA

Frosty Springs Farm – A Johnes Free Simmental Seedstock family owned operation.  Highlights to include Hoop Building with heavy use area protected feeding facility with manure storage, intensive rotational grazing system that incorporates wildlife enhancement practices, stream bank fencing, and a spring development rolled stone improvement area. 

8:30 - Registration Begins – Juice and Donuts provided by Pennsylvania Beef Council

8:30 – 11:30 - Judging Cattle Weights Contest   Adult and Youth

9:00 – 3:00 – Commercial Displays at Hoop Building to include Laura Smith, NRCS featuring  renewable energy pumps for livestock use.

9:00 – 10:30 – Farm Tour – Suzy Funka-Petery, NRCS – Wagon Tour highlighting conservation practices and the programs used to assist in the cost of the implementation.   

9:30 – 10:30   - Johnes Pasture Walk and Beef Facility Tour – A look at what is happening on the farm to compliment and maintain Johnes Free status.  David R. Wolfgang, VMD, DABVP Herd Health and Disease Prevention PSU.
9:00 – 10:30     Fitting Demonstration
9:00 – 10:30     Hoof Trimming Demonstration - Jamie Campbell

11:00 - 12:00 – Marketing Panel – Are you maximizing your marketing opportunity.  Options you may want to consider.
A.      Erick Jensen, Pineland Farms Natural Meats, contracting cattle for Whole Foods, Weis & A & P Programs.
B.       Local Market Opportunities – Freezer beef, (labeling requirements for “Natural” “Organic”), Auction Markets
